モンゴル国 [東端] スフバータル Sukhbaatar (Sükhbaatar)県の Ganga 湖で下記 2種の野鳥 計 26羽が高病原性鳥インフルエンザ H5 株 [N 未掲載]に感染した(全羽 感染死)。発生日 2010年5月3日
　オオハクチョウ whooper swans (Cygnus cygnus)
　ハイイロガン greylag geese (Anser anser)

野鳥の鳥インフルエンザ H5N1 ウイルス感染症の発生は 2005年8月、モンゴル国で最初に起こった。北部の2県 フブスグル Khövsgöl県[Alag-Ederne郡] Erhel 湖、ボルガン Bulgan 県[Saikhan郡] Khunt 湖で “野生のカモ wild ducks, ガチョウ geese, 白鳥 swans”が感染したと、国際獣疫事務局 OIE に報告されたが、オオハクチョウ (大白鳥 Whooper swan) が主な感染野鳥の 1種であった。

この渡り鳥は、高病原性鳥インフルエンザ H5N1による感染死を伴う臨床症状を来たし、ドイツ (Ruegen island, February 2006), デンマーク (March-April 2006), 日本 (April-May 2006)などの東半球の一部で、後に発見された。
